How to configure discounts

  1. Open Settings > Pricing > Other Discounts.
  2. Find the discount you want to configure.
  3. For Sale journey discount or Day return journey discount, select Percent or Flat rate, then enter the Discount value. Select Disabled to turn the discount off.
  4. For Return journey discount or Account discount, enter the percentage in Discount value (%). Enter 0 to turn the discount off.
  5. Review the Options used to calculate the discount controls, explained below.
  6. Click Save, then check the result using a test quote.

Sale journey discount

Use this option to offer a general discount on journey prices. The discount applies to each vehicle type, and the original price is displayed alongside the discounted price so customers can see the saving.

Setting How it works
Disabled No sale discount is applied.
Percent Reduces the calculated journey price by the percentage entered.
Flat rate Reduces the calculated journey price by a fixed amount in your configured currency.

For example, if the journey price is £100, a 10% sale discount reduces it to £90. A £15 flat-rate discount reduces it to £85, assuming no other discounts or price adjustments apply.

For return bookings: the sale discount is calculated separately for the outward and return journeys. A flat-rate value of £10 therefore deducts £10 from each journey, rather than £10 once from the combined booking.

Day return journey discount

Use this option to offer a discount when a customer books an outward and return journey together, with the return pickup within 24 hours of the outward pickup. The booking process displays a message about the discount when it applies.

Choose Percent or Flat rate, then enter the discount value. Select Disabled to switch this discount off.

Despite its name, this does not have to be a return on the same calendar day. For example, an outward pickup on Monday at 10:00 and a return pickup on Tuesday at 09:00 are 23 hours apart and qualify for the configured discount. The relevant interval is between the two pickup times, not between the time the booking is created and the return journey.

For qualifying bookings: the discount is applied separately to both journeys. For example, with a £5 flat-rate discount and two journeys originally priced at £50 each, the prices become £45 each—a combined saving of £10, assuming no other adjustments.

Return journey discount

Use this option to offer a percentage discount when the customer adds a return journey during the booking process.

Enter the required percentage in Discount value (%). Unlike the day return discount, this discount does not require the return pickup to be within 24 hours. It applies to both the outward and return journey prices, not only to the return leg. Enter 0 to disable it.

For example, if the outward journey costs £80 and the return costs £100, a 10% return journey discount reduces them to £72 and £90. The combined price becomes £162, assuming no other discounts or adjustments.

Important: booking two separate one-way journeys does not meet the return-booking condition. The outward and return journeys must be included together in the booking process.

Account discount

Use this option to offer a percentage discount to customers who book while logged into their customer account.

Enter the percentage in Discount value (%). For example, entering 5 gives a 5% account discount. Enter 0 to disable it.

This is a general account discount configured in this section, rather than a separate percentage for each customer. When testing it through Web Booking, make sure the customer is logged in before checking the final price.

For example, a journey priced at £100 becomes £95 with a 5% account discount, assuming no other discounts or adjustments apply.

Options used to calculate the discount

These controls let you include or exclude the following additional charges from the amount used to calculate a voucher-code discount.

Option Charge category
Child seats Charges for child seats.
Additional items Charges for additional booking items.
Parking charges Parking charges added to the journey.
Meet and Greet Charges for the Meet and Greet service.

Select Include to make the charge part of the discount calculation. Select Exclude to leave that charge outside the calculation. Excluding a charge does not remove it from the booking; the customer still pays that charge.

Example: excluding a child-seat charge

Suppose a booking contains an £80 journey and a £20 child-seat charge, and the customer uses a 10% voucher. With no other discounts active:

  • Child seats set to Include: the voucher applies to £100, giving a £10 discount. The customer pays £90.
  • Child seats set to Exclude: the voucher applies only to £80, giving an £8 discount. The £20 child-seat charge remains unchanged, so the customer pays £92.

Important: these Include/Exclude controls apply to voucher-code discounts. They do not exclude charges from the calculations for Sale journey, Day return journey, Return journey or Account discounts.

How multiple discounts work together

More than one automatic discount can apply to the same booking. The system applies eligible discounts in this order:

Sale journey discount → Day return journey discount → Return journey discount → Account discount

Each percentage discount is calculated from the price remaining after the preceding discount. The percentages are not simply added together. A qualifying day return can receive both the day return discount and the general return journey discount when both are enabled.

For example, with a £100 journey, a 10% sale discount reduces the price to £90. A subsequent 10% account discount reduces that £90 to £81. The combined saving is £19, not £20.

A valid voucher code can then apply an additional discount, subject to the voucher’s conditions and the Include/Exclude settings. Check the combined result before offering several discounts together.

Checking your setup

After saving, create test quotes that match the discount conditions. Check a one-way journey, a return journey and a logged-in customer booking as appropriate. Include any additional charges you normally use.

A return discount is missing

Check that the return journey was added within the same booking, rather than created as a separate one-way booking. For the day return discount, also check the outward and return pickup times.

An account discount is missing

Check that the customer is logged into their account and that Account discount is greater than 0.

The price is lower than expected

Check whether several discounts are enabled. Sale, day return, return journey and account discounts can combine, and a valid voucher can reduce the price further. Also remember that flat-rate automatic discounts are applied separately to the outward and return journeys.

Excluding an extra has not changed an automatic discount

The Include/Exclude controls affect voucher-code discounts, not the four automatic discounts in this section. Test these controls using a valid voucher and a booking containing the relevant extra.
